About Boss Gourmet Sweets
Our Story
BOSS Ice Cream was created in 2010 by Valerie W. Ross. Ross watched her mother, Dorris Wilson, a Tennessean native, make homemade, pasteurized custard ice cream on top of a stove, using a family recipe passed down from her grandmother, who worked on a plantation after slavery was abolished, as a cook. In 2010, Ross needed money to pay her daughter's outstanding college tuition and decided to revise the ice cream recipe by omitting the eggs to make it appealing to the more health-conscious individuals. Ross began selling this new and improved, Southern Style ice cream door to door throughout her neighborhood and fellow church members before submitting 5 samples of this scrumptious confectionary to Whole Foods Market (Maryland) for consideration on their shelves. In 2011, she received her acceptance letter from Whole Foods Market. The ice cream was sold in every Whole Foods Market throughout the Maryland, D.C., and Virginia regions. Today, Ross and her family have expanded this delicacy to include Hand crafted Chocolates (Turtles, Toffee, Chocolate Covered Pretzels, and Chocolate Covered Caramel), Gourmet Flavored Popcorn (Cheedar, Cheedar Heat, Classic Caramel, and Chocolate Covered Caramel) !
